Strategy Board Module
Turning Ideas Into Projects
A kanban board for pitching, discussing, and vetting ideas as a team — then converting a vetted one into a real project with one click, no retyping.
Working the board
1Post an idea
The board has three working columns — Idea, Discussing, and Vetted — plus an archived/converted list tucked out of the way below them. New ideas always start in Idea.
Use the form at the top of the Idea column: give it a Title (required) and, optionally, a Description. Choose Visibility — see Keeping an idea management-only or Sharing an idea with specific people — then click + New idea. Your card appears at the top of the Idea column, showing your name as the owner.
2Discuss and vet it
Move a card forward with its own button (Move to Discussing, then Mark Vetted) — or just drag the card into the next column. Either way moves it and nothing else; there’s no separate “approve” step.
Click Discuss on any card to open its comment thread. Comments support one level of replies — replying to a reply attaches it to the original top-level comment instead of nesting further. You can edit or delete your own comments (deleting a top-level comment takes its replies with it); anyone can read the whole thread.
The card’s title and description can be edited by its author or a company admin at any time, from any column, by clicking the title.
3Convert to a project
Once an idea reaches Vetted, its card gets a Convert to project button.
Clicking Convert creates an actual record in the Projects module — same title, description, and owner — and the idea card moves to the archived/converted list with a link back to it. Strategy Board never keeps its own shadow copy of project data; from that point on, the project lives entirely in Projects, where you build out its tasks, stage, and budget the normal way.
Only a Vetted idea can convert. Move it back to Discussing first if it needs more work.
Common tasks
Attaching files and voice notes
Open an idea’s Discuss panel to find its attachments section, underneath the comment thread.
Upload any file as supporting material for the idea, or record a quick voice note directly from the browser — the same attachments-and-voice-notes component used in Projects, Tasks, and Strategy’s own discussion panel. Anything you attach here stays with the idea; it doesn’t automatically carry over if the idea is later converted to a project.
Keeping an idea management-only
When posting an idea, choose Management only instead of Everyone under Visibility. Only company managers (and the idea’s own author) will see it on the board — everyone else’s board simply won’t show the card. This option is only available to managers in the first place; if a non-manager somehow submits it, the idea is quietly kept visible to everyone instead.
Sharing an idea with specific people
Choose Specific people under Visibility to hand-pick exactly who can see an idea, instead of everyone with access to Strategy Board or managers only. A checklist appears listing everyone in your company who has Strategy Board access — tick as many as you like. Only the people you tick, the idea’s own author, and company managers will ever see the card; nobody else’s board shows it at all. You can change who an idea is shared with later from its Edit form, including switching it back to Everyone or Management only. This option only appears once your company has more than one person with Strategy Board access — with just yourself, there’s nobody else to share it with.
Copying an idea to another company
Click Copy to company on any card and pick a destination from the companies you belong to. This creates a brand-new idea there — title, description, and the full comment thread — always landing back in that company’s Idea column with you as its new owner. Status, visibility, any conversion link, and attachments are never carried over; the copy starts clean.
Archiving and restoring
Click Archive on any card to shelve an idea that isn’t going anywhere, without deleting it. Archived and converted ideas both live in the collapsed list below the board — click to expand it. An archived idea can be Restored straight back to the Idea column; a converted one instead offers View in Projects.
Reference
Column reference
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Idea | Freshly posted, not yet discussed. |
| Discussing | Being actively talked through in the comment thread. |
| Vetted | Ready to become a project — the only stage that can convert. |
Cards can move backward as freely as forward, by button or by drag-and-drop — there’s no forward-only rule.
What this module doesn’t do
Converting an idea creates a project and archives the idea; there’s no “un-convert” — edit the resulting project directly in Projects instead.
See Copying an idea — only the title, description, and comments travel to the destination company.
